Snow Removal in Sterling Heights, MI

D&J Contracting is Sterling Heights's local choice for commercial Snow Removal. We bring 38 years in Southeast Michigan and plan each property around plow routes, stacking space, and ice control that fit real site conditions.

Our work keeps drives, stalls, and loading areas usable without beating up curb lines or drainage paths. In Macomb, that matters when a storm turns a parking lot into a liability.

Commercial Properties We Service in Sterling Heights

We plan winter access around how each property actually moves, from storefront traffic to truck turns and emergency routes in Sterling Heights.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, keep ADA ramps, crosswalks, entrances, and parking stalls open so customers can get in without blocking traffic flow or creating slip hazards.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, protect dock lanes, trailer courts, and fire access so heavy loads can move safely and snow piles do not choke operations.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, clear drives, mail areas, sidewalks, and guest parking so residents have safe access and management avoids complaints tied to blocked circulation.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, maintain entrances, public walkways, service roads, and emergency access points so staff, visitors, and responders can move through the site without delays.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Sterling Heights Snow Removal Standards

Our Snow Removal holds up longer in Sterling Heights because we treat winter work as pavement protection, not just clearing lanes. We watch where meltwater runs after each pass, keep it out of curb lines and low spots, and avoid packing snow where it will refreeze against the edge of the lot. That matters on sites with heavy traffic and tight drainage. We also look at the base under the travel path before winter gets deep, since weak support turns a normal plow season into spring patchwork. Pair that with materials matched to Michigan freeze-thaw cycles, and property managers spend less fixing cracked edges, settled joints, and ice-damaged areas after the season ends.

  • Drainage first: we push snow so water leaves the pavement instead of sitting at the edge and freezing back into the surface.
  • Base support: we account for sub-base condition before storms pile up, which helps prevent rutting, breakup, and costly early repairs.
  • Freeze-thaw fit: we use methods built for repeated thaw and refreeze cycles, so the lot takes less damage through winter and spring.

Common Snow Removal Projects We Handle in Sterling Heights

  • Retail centers along Van Dyke and Hall Road usually need a first push before opening, then a return pass after the morning rush. We clear main drives, cart corrals, curb ramps, and pedestrian crossings in sequence so customers can move without backing traffic into the travel lanes. Snow gets placed where it will not choke stall count or block sight lines at the exits.
  • Industrial yards near Mound Road often need dock doors and trailer lanes opened first, with windrows cut back before they harden against the apron. We work the yard from the truck paths out, keep meltwater moving away from low spots, and avoid stacking where it will trap thaw water against the slab. That keeps freight moving and reduces refreeze around loading areas.
  • Medical offices and multi-tenant sites off Schoenherr need tighter control around ADA routes, patient entries, and fire lanes. We start with the walking surfaces, then clean the parking field in phases so one access point stays usable while we finish the rest of the lot. In Macomb County freeze cycles, that order matters because packed snow at a ramp turns into ice fast.

In-House Crews & Equipment for Sterling Heights Projects

Our Sterling Heights snow work stays in house from the first push to the last salt check. We use only our own fully insured W2 crews and company-owned heavy equipment, so we control route timing, pile placement, cleanup order, and the standard on every site from Hall Road to Van Dyke; that keeps subcontractor drift out of the job and gives the property manager one accountable team when access, safety, or billing needs a straight answer.

D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Our 3-Step Snow Removal Process for Sterling Heights

  1. On-Site Evaluation We walk the property, measure entrances, docks, fire lanes, and stack room, then build a free estimate around how the lot actually moves during a storm.
  2. Permitting and Logistics We map plow paths, pile areas, salt access, and any local paperwork before winter starts so your manager is not sorting out details during active weather in Sterling Heights.
  3. Execution and Cleanup Our crew clears in the planned order, treats ice where it forms, and finishes with a site check so traffic can move without leftover windrows or blocked drains.

Sterling Heights Permits & Codes Handled For You

We handle the paperwork before the first storm so your team does not have to chase forms in the middle of a route change or site walk. In Sterling Heights, that means we work through the Building Department for any Dumpster or right of way permit, and we coordinate with MissDig before any excavation tied to snow storage, drainage checks, or site prep. That keeps the regulatory side off your plate and lets us focus on access, curb protection, and getting the lot cleared without utility conflicts or avoidable delays.

Frequently Asked Questions about Snow Removal in Sterling Heights

When should we schedule winter service?

Book before the first hard freeze, while we can still walk the site and map entrances, loading zones, and stack areas without working around ice. Early planning keeps costs down because route layout gets set before storms force rushed decisions.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We clear in phases and keep priority lanes open so tenants, customers, and deliveries can keep moving. In Sterling Heights, that means timing the work around traffic peaks near Lakeside Mall and the Mound Road corridor instead of blocking the whole lot at once.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We plan plow direction, snow placement, and salt use around drainage and pavement edges so meltwater does not refreeze against curbs or joints. That reduces edge breakup, rutting, and spring repair bills across Macomb commercial sites.
