We stay active on commercial concrete work across Harper Woods, supporting property managers who need slabs, curbs, sidewalks, and dock aprons built to handle traffic, drainage, and seasonal movement. Explore the map and project pins below to see our recent fieldwork and how those repairs and replacements hold up on real properties in Macomb.

Commercial Properties We Service in Harper Woods

Commercial concrete has to match how each site carries traffic, handles access, and protects people on foot. In Harper Woods, we build for the use case first, because the slab, curb, and walk only perform if the support below them fits the property above them.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, where ADA routes, entry walks, and curb returns have to stay level so customers move safely and trip edges do not form at storefronts.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, where dock aprons, drive lanes, and equipment paths need concrete that can handle repeated load without breaking down at the joints or edges.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, where sidewalks, common drives, and parking areas need stable surfaces that limit settlement, control drainage, and reduce recurring repair calls.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, where public access areas must stay serviceable under heavy use, with joint layout, slope control, and reinforcement set for long-term performance.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Harper Woods Concrete Contractor Standards

Our concrete holds up longer in Harper Woods because we do the unglamorous work first. We grade the site so water moves away from the slab, not under it. We rebuild weak spots in the base before any concrete goes in, and we use mixes and joint spacing that fit Michigan freeze-thaw cycles. That keeps the surface from lifting, cracking, and breaking apart early, which means property managers spend less on patch work and avoid bigger repairs that start with a small drainage problem.

  • Drainage first: We pitch the slab so meltwater and rain run off cleanly instead of sitting at edges, joints, and low spots where they eat into support and start failures early.
  • Solid sub-base: We prepare the base to carry load evenly. If the support is soft or uneven, the concrete moves with traffic and cracks faster, which turns a simple fix into a larger bill later.
  • Freeze-thaw mix: We place concrete that can handle Michigan weather swings without breaking down at the surface. That slows spalling, joint damage, and repeat repairs that drain maintenance budgets.

Common Concrete Contractor Projects We Handle in Harper Woods

  • Retail centers along Kelly Road often need broken entry walks, settled curb returns, and panel edges that trap water after snowmelt. We sawcut back to sound concrete, rebuild the base where traffic has pumped it loose, reset the slope so runoff leaves the storefront, and place new joints where they control cracking instead of letting it run through a customer path.
  • Industrial yards near Eight Mile usually call for dock apron repairs, loading zone patches, and slab sections that have started to rock under forklifts or delivery trucks. We remove the failed area, correct the subgrade that lost support, compact the base in lifts, and pour to the right thickness for repeated wheel loads so the repair holds up under daily freight traffic.
  • Property managers dealing with ADA updates around local office and retail fronts need level routes at entrances, compliant transitions at walks, and curb work that does not leave trip points behind. We rework grades at the panel edges, replace damaged sidewalk sections cleanly, and tie new concrete into existing surfaces so pedestrian access stays functional without creating another maintenance problem.

In-House Crews & Equipment for Harper Woods Projects

Our Harper Woods concrete work stays in the hands of our own W2 crews from sawcut to final cleanup, and we bring company-owned excavators, saws, and placement gear to every job. We do not hand slab replacement, curb resets, sidewalk panels, or dock aprons to subcontractors, because that is how we keep the finish under one standard, hold the schedule steady for property managers, and put one name on every decision made in the field.

D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Harper Woods Permits & Codes Handled For You

We take the permit work off your plate before any sawcut or excavation starts. Our crew handles the paperwork with the Harper Woods Building Department, pulls the required Dumpster and ROW permits through the city building office at https://harperwoodscity.org/building-housing/, and coordinates Miss Dig at https://www.missdig811.org/ so utility marks are in place before we open the slab. That keeps the project moving and keeps your team out of the back and forth that slows jobs down, especially on active sites in Macomb where access, safety, and site control all matter.

Frequently Asked Questions about Concrete Contractor in Harper Woods

When should we schedule concrete work?

Spring through early fall gives us the best curing window and fewer delays from cold ground or wet subgrade. That timing usually keeps labor and protection costs down for commercial sites in Harper Woods.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We phase the work so one access route stays open while another section is under construction. On active properties, that means clear staging, tight sawcut lines, and a plan that keeps tenants moving without forcing a full shutdown.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We build drainage into the repair so meltwater does not sit at slab edges or joints and freeze again overnight. Good support below the concrete matters too, because frost heave starts where water gets under the panel and weakens the base.
