Recent Asphalt Paving Projects in Grosse Pointe Shores

We stay active on commercial paving work across Grosse Pointe Shores, where owners need pavement that carries traffic, drains cleanly, and holds its shape through daily use. Use the map and project pins below to review recent jobs and see how we handle site prep, placement, and finished surface performance in the field.

Commercial Properties We Service in Grosse Pointe Shores

We build commercial pavement around how each site actually gets used. In Grosse Pointe Shores and across Macomb, that means matching the section, base support, and drainage to the traffic load and access demands of the property.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, where we protect ADA routes, keep stall layouts readable, and build pavement that handles constant turning, braking, and delivery traffic without breaking down at the entrances.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, where truck loads, trailer movement, and tight turning radii demand thicker sections, stronger base support, and compaction that holds under repeated stress.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, where drive aisles, parking areas, and guest access need clean drainage and a smooth surface that stays serviceable through daily use and plowing cycles.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, where public access, safety, and long service life depend on proper grading, correct thickness, and a surface that can take steady traffic without early failure.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Grosse Pointe Shores Asphalt Paving Standards

Our pavement holds up longer in Grosse Pointe Shores because we do the work that protects the structure before the surface goes down. We slope water off the lot instead of letting it sit at edges and low spots, we rebuild weak base areas so traffic does not keep pumping the same failure points, and we place mix that stands up to Michigan freeze-thaw cycles. That approach keeps property managers from paying for the same repair twice.

  • Drainage first: Water is what starts most early failures. If it gets into joints, cracks, or ponding areas, it softens the base and turns a small issue into a bigger one. Good drainage keeps that cycle from starting.
  • Base prep: A lot can look fine on day one and still fail fast if the sub-base is weak. We correct soft spots, build proper support, and compact it right so the pavement carries traffic without shifting.
  • Cold-weather mix: Michigan winters punish thin or poorly placed asphalt. We use materials and placement methods that handle freeze-thaw movement better, which means fewer cracks, less edge breakup, and fewer early repair calls for Macomb property managers.

Common Asphalt Paving Projects We Handle in Grosse Pointe Shores

  • Retail parking lot resurfacing near the Mack corridor usually starts with wheel path rutting, broken edges at the entrances, and water sitting where carts and delivery traffic keep pounding the same lanes. We mill the failed top course, check the base at curb returns and loading zones, then place new asphalt at the right thickness so the surface drains clean and holds up through freeze-thaw cycles.
  • Service drives for office and medical properties in Grosse Pointe Shores often fail at the joints first because turning traffic, snow plow blades, and repeated braking work the same seams over and over. We cut out soft areas, rebuild the weak section below grade, and compact each lift tight so the repaired drive does not settle back into the same low spots after a few seasons.
  • ADA updates on commercial lots usually come with slope corrections, crosswalk tie-ins, and entrance transitions that have to line up with existing pavement without creating trip points. We regrade the approach, adjust drainage where needed, and finish the asphalt to match access routes so property managers can keep compliance work tied to real site performance instead of just patching over problem areas.

In-House Crews & Equipment for Grosse Pointe Shores Projects

Our Asphalt Paving work in Grosse Pointe Shores stays with our own W2 crews from layout to final compaction, using company-owned pavers, rollers, and support trucks so the same people who set grade also finish the mat. We do not use subcontractors, which lets us control thickness, compaction, and sequencing on every job, keeps the schedule in our hands, and gives local property managers one crew that answers directly for the work from start to finish.

D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Frequently Asked Questions about Asphalt Paving in Grosse Pointe Shores

When is the best time to schedule paving?

Late spring through early fall gives us the best working window because the base dries out and compacts properly. In Grosse Pointe Shores, that timing lowers the chance of cold-ground movement and keeps you from paying for rework after weather shifts the lot.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We phase the work so traffic can keep moving in sections, and we plan access before crews start. That lets tenants, deliveries, and customers use the property while we rebuild the pavement one area at a time.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We stop water from getting into weak spots before freeze-thaw starts breaking them apart. Proper drainage, sound base repair, and timely crack sealing protect the surface and reduce costly spring repairs across Macomb.
