We stay active on commercial paving work across Utica, where property managers need lots that carry traffic, shed water, and hold up through repeated freeze and thaw cycles. Use the map and project pins below to review recent jobs and see how we handle site prep, placement, and finished surface performance in the field.

Commercial Properties We Service in Utica

We build commercial pavement in Utica for sites that need to stay open, drain properly, and hold up under real traffic loads.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, where ADA access, clear striping, and stable drive aisles keep customers moving and reduce trip hazards at entrances.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, where truck routes, dock aprons, and turning areas need thicker sections and tighter compaction to handle repeated axle load.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, where parking lanes, fire access, and resident circulation depend on a surface that resists cracking and ponding without constant patch work.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, where public access, safety markings, and heavy daily use demand pavement that stays serviceable through repeat freeze-thaw cycles.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Utica Asphalt Paving Standards

Our Asphalt Paving lasts longer in Utica because we build for the ground under the lot, not just the surface people see. We correct drainage first so water does not sit in wheel paths or work into seams, we rebuild weak sub-base areas before they turn into soft spots, and we choose pavement thickness and mix that can handle Michigan freeze-thaw cycles without breaking apart early. That kind of planning keeps property managers out of the repair cycle, since a lot that sheds water and stays supported from below does not need constant patching, edge fixes, or premature replacement.

  • Drainage first: We shape the finished grade so water moves off the pavement instead of soaking into cracks and opening up the base.
  • Base repaired: We fix unstable sub-base sections before paving, which keeps loaded traffic from punching through thin spots later.
  • Cold weather: We use pavement built for Michigan freeze-thaw stress, so the surface holds together longer and avoids early repair costs.

Common Asphalt Paving Projects We Handle in Utica

  • Retail lot resurfacing near Downtown Utica and Hall Road: Property managers usually call after the top course starts polishing, the wheel paths rut, and the corners break where shoppers cut across. We mill the worn surface, inspect the base at entrances and cart routes, then place new asphalt at the right thickness so traffic stops chewing through the same spots every season.
  • Warehouse yard rebuilds along Van Dyke and Auburn Road: These jobs usually start with truck traffic beating up dock aprons, soft edges at trailer turns, and water sitting where forklifts need a clean path. We cut out failed sections, correct the subgrade where it has lost support, and rebuild the pavement in lifts that match the load so the yard stays serviceable under repeated commercial use.
  • ADA and access corrections near Heritage Park corridors: Managers bring us in when ramps do not tie cleanly into walks, slopes push water back toward entries, or striping no longer matches current access needs. We rework grades before paving, tighten transitions at curb lines, and finish the layout so pedestrian access stays usable without creating drainage problems or trip points.

In-House Crews & Equipment for Utica Projects

Our Utica paving work stays in house from the first layout mark to final compaction, with fully insured W2 crews running company-owned pavers, rollers, and support trucks on every job. We do not hand the work to subcontractors, which keeps base prep, placement, compaction, and cleanup under one chain of command so local property managers get tighter scheduling, cleaner quality control, and direct accountability from the same crew that built the lot.

Utica Asphalt Reviews That Hold Up

Property managers across Utica have kept bringing us back because we handle the base, drainage, and compaction with the same discipline on every commercial lot, and the pavement keeps doing its job after traffic and winter stress hit it. D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Utica Permits & Codes Handled For You

We take the paperwork off your plate before a crew ever cuts in. For projects in Utica, we work with the Building Department, pull the required Dumpster and ROW permits, and coordinate MissDig before any excavation starts. That keeps utility marks in place, avoids preventable delays, and lets you stay focused on the property while we handle the steps that have to happen first.

Frequently Asked Questions about Asphalt Paving in Utica

When is the best time to schedule paving?

Late spring through early fall gives us the best working window because the base dries out and compaction holds. In Utica, that keeps the crew from fighting cold ground and helps avoid extra cost from weather delays or rework.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We phase the work so traffic still has a clear path in and out. That usually means breaking the lot into sections, holding access at entrances, and timing cuts so customers, tenants, and deliveries can keep moving.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We start by keeping water out of the pavement structure. Good drainage, sealed cracks, and proper compaction reduce freeze-thaw damage, which is what turns small surface problems into bigger repair bills across Macomb.
