We stay on commercial properties throughout Grosse Pointe Woods all winter, keeping drive lanes, loading areas, and customer access open as conditions shift from one storm to the next. Use the map and project pins below to review recent work and see how we handle real site conditions in the field.

Commercial Properties We Service in Grosse Pointe Woods

Each property type puts a different load on the site, the pavement, and the people moving through it. In Grosse Pointe Woods, we plan winter work around those differences so access stays open and liability stays controlled.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, need clear ADA routes, open storefront access, and snow placement that does not cut stall count or block drivers at drive aisles.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, depend on dock access, trailer movement, and surface support for heavier equipment, so we clear paths without leaving ridges that catch tires or interfere with loading.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, need safe resident travel, mailbox access, and consistent clearing at sidewalks, curb ramps, and guest parking areas where repeated traffic packs snow into problem spots.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, require reliable access for staff, visitors, emergency vehicles, and service entrances, with attention to fire lanes, drop-off zones, and public walkways that cannot stay buried after a storm.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Grosse Pointe Woods Snow Removal Standards

Our winter work holds up longer in Grosse Pointe Woods because we plan around the surface below the snow, not just the snow itself. We keep meltwater moving off the lot so it does not sit at seams, curb edges, or low spots and freeze back into the pavement. We also check the base under the driving lanes before a storm season starts. If that foundation is weak, plowing only exposes the problem faster. The last piece is product selection. We use salt and treatment rates that make sense for Michigan freeze-thaw cycles, so ice breaks loose without overloading joints or leaving behind excess moisture that turns into refreeze. That approach saves property managers money because it reduces early cracking, edge failure, and spring repairs that usually start with one bad winter.

  • Drainage first: We keep runoff moving away from curb lines and entries so water does not soak in, freeze, and break down pavement at the edges.
  • Base support: A stable sub-base gives plows a firm surface to work on, which lowers rutting, heaving, and damage that leads to patchwork repairs.
  • Freeze-thaw fit: We match deicing methods to Macomb weather swings so ice control works without creating extra refreeze or stressing joints and concrete.

Common Snow Removal Projects We Handle in Grosse Pointe Woods

  • Retail centers along Mack and the side streets off Vernier usually need a first pass before opening, then another cleanup after traffic packs the wheel paths. We clear entrances, ADA ramps, cart corrals, and main drive aisles first, then stage snow where it does not steal stalls or block sight lines at the corners. That keeps customers moving and gives the manager a lot that still works after the second freeze.
  • Warehouse and light industrial sites tied into Macomb traffic need dock doors, trailer lanes, and dumpster access kept open without burying drainage points. We push snow away from loading edges, protect curb stops, and avoid stacking against grade changes that turn into ice dams when the sun hits the slab. On those sites, bad pile placement causes more problems than the storm itself.
  • Office and medical properties near Moross often run into ADA trouble after repeated plow cycles pack snow back across walks and curb cuts. We handle those sites with tighter route control, hand cleanup at crossings, and salt placement that matches shaded areas where refreeze hits first. The goal is simple: safe entry points that stay usable for staff, tenants, and deliveries without creating spring damage at the pavement edge.

D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Grosse Pointe Woods Permits & Codes Handled For You

We handle the paperwork before the first storm so your team does not have to chase forms in bad weather. Our process runs through the Grosse Pointe Woods Building Department, we pull the required Dumpster and right of way permits, and we coordinate with MissDig before any excavation tied to snow storage or site prep. That keeps the regulatory load off the property manager and lets us focus on access, cleanup, and site safety.

Frequently Asked Questions about Snow Removal in Grosse Pointe Woods

When should we schedule winter service?

Book before the first hard freeze. That gives us time to walk the site, mark push routes, and set pile areas while curb lines and drain points are still visible in Grosse Pointe Woods.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We clear in phases so entrances, fire lanes, and dock access stay usable. Main traffic paths get opened first, then we return after heavy use packs snow back into the wheel tracks.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We place snow where meltwater can drain and not refreeze against pavement edges or joints. That reduces heaving, edge breakage, and the salt buildup that shortens surface life across a commercial lot in Macomb.
