About Storm Drain Services

Introduction

When we think about urban infrastructure, the first things that come to mind are often roads, bridges, and buildings. But beneath the bustling streets and under the shadow of towering skyscrapers lies an equally important part of city living – the storm drain. This is particularly true in the vibrant city of Clarkston. As a commercial property owner or manager, understanding the workings of the storm drain in your premises can have far-reaching benefits.

In this guide, we delve into the complex and interconnected world of storm drains. From storm drain basins and storm drain pipes, to catch basins and storm sewer systems, we unlock insights into their features, how they operate and why they’re so essential for commercial properties. We also explore the services offered by professionals such as D&J Contracting – professionals equipped with a wealth of experience in storm drain management and solutions.

Understanding the Basics: What is a Storm Drain?

A storm drain, also referred to sometimes as a storm sewer, is a necessary infrastructure piece designed to manage excess rain and ground water. It channels this water from paved streets, parking lots, sidewalks, and roofs – preventing flooding that could damage properties, sidewalks, and roads.

The storm drain system comprises of different components – from storm drain basins and storm drain pipes, to catch basins and concrete storm drain structures. These systems can sometimes be complex, featuring sub components like stormwater channels and storm drain grates. Pipes of varying materials such as plastic stormwater pipe or PVC storm drain are used based on the project requirements.

The Importance and Benefits of Proper Storm Drains

Now that we know what a storm drain is, let’s delve into why they’re so important. Firstly, they protect your commercial property from flooding and water damage. In a city like Clarkston, a robust storm drainage system is vital due to the city’s diverse weather patterns. A well-maintained storm drain system helps to efficiently divert excess water away from your property, mitigating risk of flooding or other water-related damages.

Secondly, it’s important for public safety and health. Clogged storm drains can lead to standing water, creating breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other pests. They can also cause slippery, unsafe conditions for pedestrians and vehicles. Regularly cleaning your storm drain using services like D&J Contracting’s hydro jet storm drain cleaning will ensure it’s in good working condition all year round.

Real-World Application of Storm Drains in Commercial Properties

In commercial properties such as large office complexes and retail parks, storm drains play a critical role. Let’s take a look at a real-world example to understand its practical application.

A shopping complex in Clarkston was regularly experiencing flooding during heavy rains. With several retail outlets and ample pedestrian movement, this posed a risk to both properties and people. After a detailed evaluation by D&J Contracting, a team of experts was able to diagnose that the main issue was an inadequate storm drain with grate installed. They upgraded the existing system, installing a precast concrete storm drain and accompanying storm drain basins. Upon completion, the shopping complex witnessed a significant reduction in flooding, even in heavy rain.

Maintenance and Repair of Storm Drains

Just like every other aspect of your commercial property, regular maintenance and prompt repair of storm drains are crucial. One of the most common issues with storm drains is blockage. Leaves, trash, soil and other debris can accumulate over time, causing critical blockage in the storm sewer line. This can lead to inefficient drainage, flooding, damage to property, and can disrupt normal day-to-day operations.

Locally based service providers such as D&J Contracting provide swift and efficient storm drain cleaning and repair services. With a team of proactive professionals, they ensure that your storm drains are kept clear and functioning at their best with services such as storm drain cleanout and storm sewer repair.

The Final Word

Storm drains are more than just a part of city infrastructure – they are integral to maintaining the well-being of commercial properties. As a property owner or manager in the bustling city of Clarkston, having a keen awareness of the role of storm drains and the necessity for their ongoing maintenance is essential. In the complex world of storm drains, reliable partners like D&J Contracting can prove invaluable, providing professional advice, maintenance, and repair services tailored to your needs.

Remember, the storm drain might stay out of sight, but its role in securing your property from unforeseen damage is substantial. Ensuring it’s always in its best form not only protects your property, but contributes towards a cleaner, safer city too.
