Site Drainage in Harrison Township, MI

D&J Contracting handles commercial site drainage in Harrison Township with the same field discipline we bring to every project. For 38 years in Southeast Michigan, we have corrected runoff, grade breaks, and problem outlets before water starts damaging the base.

We focus on how the site actually drains, not how it looks after a light rain. That means protecting pavement structure, controlling settlement risk, and keeping water moving off the property where it belongs.

Commercial Properties We Service in Harrison Township

Commercial drainage has to match how the site is used, not just how it looks after a rain. In Harrison Township, we shape the system around traffic flow, access points, and the load the property carries every day.

  • Retail Centers & Plazas, drainage keeps ADA routes open, limits ponding at entries, and stops water from tracking into walk paths where slip risk and base erosion start.
  • Industrial Parks & Warehouses, drainage has to handle heavy truck loads, protect dock aprons, and keep runoff from cutting into pavement edges that already take constant stress.
  • HOAs & Multi-Family Complexes, proper grade control protects drives, sidewalks, and parking areas while reducing standing water that leads to complaints, settlement, and winter ice problems.
  • Municipal & Institutional Facilities, drainage supports public access, manages peak runoff, and helps preserve curb lines, lots, and service routes that cannot go soft under traffic or seasonal weather.

Built for Michigan Weather: Our Harrison Township Site Drainage Standards

Our drainage lasts longer in Harrison Township because we fix the water path before it starts damaging the base. We set the grade so runoff leaves the lot, not sits at low spots or pushes into pavement edges. Then we build the support below it tight enough to carry commercial traffic without pumping or settlement. That approach keeps small drainage defects from turning into cracked pavement, soft shoulders, and repeat patching. Property managers save money because they avoid early repairs, emergency fixes, and the kind of base failure that usually shows up after the first few freeze cycles.

  • Proper slope keeps water moving off the surface before it can soak into joints, seams, and edge lines. That reduces ponding, protects the subgrade, and cuts down on repair calls after heavy rain.
  • Solid sub-base gives the drainage system a stable foundation under traffic. We compact it correctly so loads do not pump fines out of place or create settlement that forces early patch work.
  • Freeze-thaw ready details matter in Macomb because standing water expands when temperatures swing. We use methods that hold shape through winter, which helps owners avoid spring failures and budget surprises.

Common Site Drainage Projects We Handle in Harrison Township

  • Retail resurfacing near Jefferson Avenue: Property managers call us before milling because the old surface hides flat grades, broken basin rims, and water that runs back toward storefront walks. We reset inlet elevations, correct the slope at cart lanes and curb returns, then open the outlet path so new pavement sheds water instead of trapping it at the edge.
  • Industrial concrete patching by Metro Parkway: Forklift routes and truck courts do not tolerate soft subgrade or standing water. We trace the low spot, cut out failed sections where the base has pumped, tighten the drainage path under the slab edge, and rebuild the grade so repaired concrete does not crack again from trapped moisture.
  • ADA access updates in Harrison Township: Property managers often need walk routes reworked after settlement changes the pitch at entrances and handicap stalls. We regrade the approach, adjust basin heights where needed, and make sure runoff leaves accessible routes fast enough to keep ponding off ramps, crosswalks, and entry pads.

In-House Crews & Equipment for Harrison Township Projects

Our Harrison Township drainage work stays in house from layout to final grade, and every crew member on the job is a fully insured W2 employee using company-owned excavators, compactors, and support equipment. We do not hand off basin setting, pipe runs, or finish grading to subcontractors, so we keep one standard on slope and compaction, hold the schedule to our plan, and give local property managers one accountable crew from start to finish.

D&J did a great job on our facility parking lot when we were in need of some asphalt catch basin repairs. They were professional, accommodating to our traffic needs, quick and thorough with the repairs, and back promptly after a week to retrieve their barriers. Their quote process was easy, and their pricing was incredibly reasonable for the work done. We are very pleased with D&J and recommend them highly.

D&J Contracting is a fantastic vendor. I manage a very large portfolio of retail stores and they are in my top 1% of all vendors. I give them my MOST enthusiastic recommendation. They care, they provide the best quality and customer service out there. Always go above and beyond and even take on special projects that are outside their main scope of work when I'm in a pinch. No job is too big or too small for them!

Nothings but professionalism, everything done as requested and on time.
My project involved multiple services and pulling permits and I had several quotes and most companies don’t offer multiple services or don’t pull permits and you have to do it yourself.
D & J is the only company who takes care of city permits and takes care of all the services you need from start to finish. They also update you on everything, keep you in a loop and confirms everything with you.
In our specific case we needed a curb cut, driveway leveled and parking lot sealed and coated so low sports vehicles can safely pull in without scraping the bottom and D & J did it so well you can pull in even on skateboard now.
Highly recommend D & J, top quality, smooth process.

D&J was one of several companies I contacted for a quote to pave my 100’ driveway in May/June of 2021. They delivered a competitive quote, and I was further impressed by their professionalism and quick correspondence. After I hired D&J for the job, they came out to my residence within two weeks and paved my driveway in a single day. The driveway looks fantastic! The crew who paved it was friendly and quick-working, and the driveway is perfectly flat and slopes toward the road so there is no significant puddling (the attached photo is moments after a hard rain). It has been about four months since installation, and the driveway still looks impeccable. I was also contacted by D&J after the work was completed to ensure I was completely satisfied. I’ve had the misfortune of dealing with several subpar contractors in the construction industry in the recent past—but D&J is an exception to the rule. They were competitive, responsive, professional, and focused on quality and customer satisfaction. I was left very impressed. I have some future site work planned for my property, and I will absolutely be contacting D&J again.

Frequently Asked Questions about Site Drainage in Harrison Township

When is the best time to schedule drainage work?

Late summer through early fall gives us the clearest read on grade, ponding, and outlet flow before freeze-thaw starts moving water into the base. In Harrison Township, that timing usually means fewer surprises and less cost than waiting until spring damage shows up.

How do you keep our business open during the project?

We phase the work so access stays open for tenants, trucks, and customers while we correct the drainage problem. That usually means working one section at a time, keeping entry routes marked, and sequencing excavation so your operation does not stop.

How do you prevent winter weather damage?

We keep water moving away from low spots before it can freeze in place and break down the base. Proper slope, tight basin control, and clean outlet paths reduce frost heave, edge breakup, and the repair bills that follow a hard winter in Macomb.
