Embracing the Cold: The Art of Snow Plowing in Shelby Township

Winter’s arrival in the city of Shelby Township is always announced with a beautiful blanket of snow creating picturesque landscapes only rivaled by postcards. However, for the owners and managers of commercial properties, these monitorial snowfalls often bring on the challenges of maintaining accessible and safe surrounding environments. This is where the critical service of snow plowing shines and has a tremendous impact. When efficiently conducted, snow plowing forms the backbone of effective winter property management and forms an essential part of daily life and business operations throughout the winter months.

Understanding the Snow Plowing Process

Snow plowing is quite a straightforward and transparent process. A snowplow, typically attached to a vehicle such as a pickup truck or specialized vehicle in larger operations, is used to push snow aside and clear pathways, roads, and parking lots. This might seem very simple but the snow plowing is actually a blend of art and science. It involves meticulous planning, precise navigation, and familiarity with different snow types and how they respond to various weather conditions. Snow plowing is carried out in stages, typically first creating passage and then returning to clear the remaining snow.

Snow Plowing Benefits: Beyond the Obvious

The immediate benefit of snow plowing is clear – it enables mobility. Be it roads, sidewalks, parking lots, or entrances, snow plowing ensures that access is always maintained to and on your commercial property. However, the benefits go beyond mere convenience. It directly impacts safety by preventing accidents due to slippery surfaces. Additionally, it projects a strong and responsible image, demonstrating commitment towards ensuring seamless operations even in harsh weather conditions. For landlords, it also helps to attract and retain tenants who factor in thorough winter property maintenance in their decision-making process.

Real-World Applications

The real-world applications of snow plowing can be seen in shopping centers, corporate parks, apartment complexes, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities, among other places. For instance, with a retail complex, without efficient snow plowing, both foot and vehicular traffic could be dramatically reduced, impacting sales numbers and profit margins. By maintaining clear and safe passage at all times, trading activities continue undisturbed.

Consider also a healthcare facility; efficient snow plowing is a non-negotiable necessity. Whether it’s a routine or emergency visit, snow plowing guarantees uninterrupted and timely access for patients, visitors, and healthcare professionals. Similarly, in an educational institution, snow plowing ensures that the learning process is undisturbed and the children are safe from winter-related accidents.

About Shelby Township, Michigan

Shelby Township was set off by an act of the Michigan Territorial Legislature on April 12, 1827, and a civil government was organized the following May. It originally included the area that is now Sterling Heights, which was set off March 17, 1835, as the township of Jefferson, renamed to Sterling on March 6, 1838. Utica, located on the southern edge of the township, originally incorporated as a village on March 9, 1838, although that corporation was dissolved soon afterwards. The village was incorporated for a second time on May 10, 1877.

The village of Disco (42°41′02″N 83°02′04″W / 42.68389°N 83.03444°W / 42.68389; -83.03444 (Disco)) was located at what is now the junction of 24 Mile Road and Van Dyke Road. and was platted in 1849. Only a few homes and a namesake on old county road maps remain of this now forgotten historic place. See also: “The Lost Village of Disco” on the Shelby Township Historical Society website.
